Parquet is one of the biggest line items in an apartment renovation — and one where the difference between a good and a bad installation only becomes visible a year or two later. This guide explains what drives the price per m², what the floor layer's work includes and how much the whole project realistically costs in Belgrade, Pančevo and Valjevo.
Floor Types and Installation Price Differences
Before getting to the numbers, it's important to clarify which floor type we're discussing, since the installation technique — and therefore the labour cost — varies significantly:
- Solid parquet — full-thickness wood planks (18–22 mm), glued or nailed down. More expensive to install, but can be sanded and re-lacquered multiple times.
- Engineered parquet (multi-layer) — thin real-wood veneer on an HDF or plywood core. Glued or floated. Dimensionally more stable than solid wood.
- Laminate — HDF with a printed photo layer imitating wood. The cheapest material and installation; floated without glue.
- Vinyl flooring (LVT/SPC) — waterproof, ideal for bathrooms and kitchens. Floated or glued.
Installation Prices per m² — 2026
Belgrade
- Laminate or vinyl flooring (floating installation): 700–1,200 RSD/m² labour
- Engineered parquet (floating or glued): 1,200–1,800 RSD/m² labour
- Solid parquet (glued + nailed): 1,800–2,800 RSD/m² labour
- Sanding and re-lacquering existing parquet: 800–1,500 RSD/m² (depending on condition and number of lacquer coats)
Pančevo
- Laminate / vinyl flooring: 600–1,000 RSD/m²
- Engineered parquet: 1,000–1,500 RSD/m²
- Solid parquet: 1,500–2,400 RSD/m²
Valjevo
- Laminate / vinyl flooring: 550–900 RSD/m²
- Engineered parquet: 900–1,400 RSD/m²
- Solid parquet: 1,400–2,200 RSD/m²
Note: These prices are labour only. Materials (parquet, laminate, underlay, adhesive, skirting boards) are charged separately — add 1,500–6,000 RSD/m² depending on material choice.
What Else Affects the Total Cost?
- Subfloor preparation — if the floor is uneven or there is an old floor to remove, this is an extra item: 300–800 RSD/m²
- Self-levelling screed — for solid parquet the subfloor must be flat within 2 mm over 2 m; if not, a levelling compound is poured: 500–1,200 RSD/m²
- Diagonal installation pattern — uses 10–15% more material and takes slightly longer
- Skirting boards and thresholds — PVC skirting (100–200 RSD/m) or MDF skirting (200–500 RSD/m), thresholds between rooms 500–1,500 RSD each
- Old floor removal and disposal if present: 300–600 RSD/m²
Sanding Instead of Replacement — When It Makes Sense
If you have solid parquet that is 20–30 years old and is squeaking or has darkened, replacement may not be necessary at all. Sanding and re-finishing can restore it to like-new condition. The condition is that the boards are not too thin (less than 10 mm remaining) and there are no rotted or hollow sections. A flooring specialist can assess this in 15 minutes.
Warning: Never install solid parquet directly on a concrete slab without a vapour barrier and underlay. Moisture from the concrete lifts the parquet and causes shrinkage, squeaking and ultimately decay.
How Long Does Installation Take?
For an average apartment of 50–60 m²:
- Laminate: 1–2 working days
- Engineered parquet: 2–3 days
- Solid parquet + sanding + lacquering: 4–7 days (lacquer dries between coats)
